Tumanyan graduated The Yerevan Conservatory of Music under the famous singer & Professor of the former USSR Baritone Arshavir Karapetian. Soon after in 1985 Barseg moved on to study at The Moscow Conservatory of Music with Legendary Bass Yevgeny Nesterenko and later in 1982/83 at La Scala, Milan. B. Tumanyan began singing at the Spendarian State Opera of Yerevan in 1980. Tumanyan`s participation in a Benifice Gala Concert for the victims of the Armenian Earthquake in January 1989, at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, in London is what made Barseg Tumanyan to become highly sought after by opera theaters around the world.
Barseg Tumanyan brought his operatic work to appearances on the concert platform. His debut London recital at the Wigmore Hall in 1990 received the highest of press acclaim. Barseg Tumanyan`s Paris debut was in the role of Mephistopheles in Gounod`s Faust in the production at Bercy by Nicolas Joel, and his German debut was in the title role of Mussorgsky`s Boris Godunov in Johannes Schaaf`s new production at the Munich State Opera.
Barseg Tumanyan has sung the role of Escamillo in Bizet`s Carmen in Hamburg, Vienna, the Bastille Opera Paris and Covent Garden. He made his debut in Bonn in an Opera Gala in March 1992.
B. Tumanyan has made a highly successful debut at the Netherlands Opera with Luisa Miller, and then returned to the Royal Opera House in June 1997 for the Verdi Festival to sing a spectacular concert performance.
In 2002/2003 he had recitals in Washington, Boston, Providence, Montreal, Toronto, and in 2004 he had recitals in Austria, Germany and USA.
Recent concert appearances of B. Tumanyan included recitals and Opera performances at The Annual Festival ""St. Petersburg Palaces"" under Rojdestvensky, and remarkable concerts in Moscow, Russia, Austria and Germany.
Tumanyan was awarded ""The Honored Artist"" and ""People`s Artist"" honorary titles of the Republic of Armenia. He is a vice President of The International Academy of Science of Nature and Society (Armenia Branch). Students of Barseg Tumanyan have gone on to win acclaim, and notoriety with prizes at international singing competitions around the world.
