MASK is the debut solo recording of the piano works by the thirty-two year old composer Aret Madilian. His piano pieces are extremely nostalgic and melancholic in essence. At times they are vaguely reminiscent of late XIXTh century European impressionism in mood, yet much tighter and organized in melody and structure. Madilian`s compositions have an instinctive quality allowing emotions to flow from serenity to the edge of tension. Furthermore, when one reads the inside cover and the titles (a poem), the concept of this compact disc is difficult to ignore.
